Why Taxis Are Expensive, Yet Indispensable
The social media team of Taxi 40100 recently posted a video on Instagram and TikTok about our airport transfer service. Message: For 42 Euros from the airport to any Vienna address. The comments on this post were… let’s call them “restrained.” The bitter truth first: Taxis are expensive – at least compared to other public transport options. Our customers also see it this way. “And then the taxi drivers complain because no one or too few people take taxis,” writes one user. “It’s cheaper with the S7, and from Wien Mitte you can get everywhere too,” writes another.
The question that immediately arises here is: Why are taxis still indispensable for every city? A small attempt at an explanation:
Convenience
A taxi drives directly from door to door. No transfers, walking, or carrying heavy bags.
Time Savings
Taxis take the fastest route to your destination. There are no waiting times for connections like with buses or trains.
Flexibility
Taxis are available around the clock and operate even when public transport is no longer running.
Comfort and Privacy
In a taxi, you sit alone or with companions, without the crowding or noise found on full buses or trains.
Practical in Special Situations
With a lot of luggage, bad weather, illness (someone always has the flu or COVID ;-)), or time pressure, a taxi is often the most pleasant and safest solution.
Is this a plea for taxis and against buses, trains, and subways? No! Taxis are part of public services. They are, to stick with the wordplay, always there – even when other public transport options are not running or no longer running, or don’t even “serve” your destination. A trip by taxi naturally costs more than a trip by subway. But it also offers more comfort, more time savings, and leads directly to your destination.
Therefore: Take a taxi – because your journey is too important for detours.
